My friend interns with the Northeast Wilderness Trust and just registered the non-profit for the charitable Good Search, a search engine powered by Yahoo with all the features of its parent site. The engine donates a portion of its profits to the organization or school of the searcher’s choice, and sign-up is free. Anyone can track how much their favorite charity’s raised!
Now Good Search has a shopping section that features participating businesses (1-800-Contacts to 7 for All Mankind to American Express to Babys R Us). Up to 30% of products’ purchase prices can go to registered non-profits. So relevant considering our thumbs down economy.
My friend keeps bugging me to use Blackle, too, though I admit the transition has been tedious. Essentially Google with a black background, the engine has already saved 1,140,746.602 Watt hours and counting. EcoIron blogger Mark Ontkush explained the logic behind the site in a January 2007 post.
Sign up those non-profits and start conserving!
